Wednesday inspired dress

Dress your dolls for spooky season with a Wednesday-inspired look

As Halloween approaches, it's the perfect time to dress your dolls for spooky season! Ever since I designed the ruffle dress for my unicorn pattern, I knew it would be ideal for creating a witchy or Wednesday Addams-inspired outfit. It’s got lots of frills to give it that gothic charm

I decided to transform my ruffle dress into a Wednesday-inspired version by adding extra ruffles to the sleeves of the dress—and I love with how it turned out! In this post, I’ll guide you through how I made it

What You’ll Need

To create this Wednesday-inspired dress, you’ll need two of my sewing patterns:

Unicorn pattern

Cat pattern

I used upcycled glittery tulle from one of my daughter's old tutu skirts with black cotton lawn to make my dress. Tulle gives the dress that perfect Wednesday Addams feel

How to Make the Dress

1. Start with the unicorn ruffle dress
Follow the instructions for the tulle version of the ruffle dress from my unicorn pattern. You’ll want to follow the steps up until you reach Step 8

2. Modify the bodice
At Step 8, you’ll need to make a slight change—don’t sew around the arms of the bodice just yet. Only sew along the back edges

3. Add the ruffled sleeves
Now, grab your cat pattern and follow Steps 7-10 to add ruffle sleeves. I chose to make my ruffles from tulle for a dramatic effect

4. Complete the dress
Once the sleeves are attached, continue making the rest of the ruffle dress according to the unicorn pattern

Finishing touches

I made a belt from velvet ribbon to add that extra bit of detail. I folded the ends, added some hook and loop tape, and finished it off with a cute button I found in my stash

I then used a long strip of leftover tulle to tie a bow around my bunny's head and made her some boots using the fairy outfit pattern

The final look

I’m really pleased with how my Wednesday-inspired bunny turned out! The dress took a bit of time, but the end result is completely worth it. The mix of tulle with the extra ruffles, really gives it that spooky, elegant charm that Wednesday Addams is known for

Whether you’re dressing your dolls for Halloween or just want to create a gothic-inspired wardrobe, this pattern hack is a fun way to get creative. I’d love to see how your spooky-season dolls turn out, so don’t forget to share your creations in the customer facebook group or tag me on Instagram
